Isn't it nice to
open a newspaper, even if it's a Murdoch newspaper, and read about
someone you know. Especially if the article doesn't involve crime,
scandal or lewd behaviour. Yes punters Nick Glaetzer is in the
newspaper for all the right reasons (finally!!! - Ed).

Nick YWOTY?
In case you don't know, Nick (Glaetzer
Dixon Family Wines) is a finalist in this year's Wine Society
young wine maker of the year. We were so impressed, and
because we don't believe a word we read that's not on the internet, we
rang him to find out more.
"I've been practicing my 'OMG I can't believe I won' face
for the award dinner in November" he said. "These events can be
dangerous, you have to have your wits about you ... I have to make sure
I don't do the 'I can't believe that no talent liquid pusher won' face
if I don't win and you might do a Fevola and end up on youtube. Sally
wouldn't like that, she might have to write a story about me in The
Mercury!"*.
Nick was nominated by Alain Rousseau from Frogmore Creek and
submitted his 09 üBER Blanc riesling, 08 RêVEUR pinot noir
and 08 MON PèRE Shiraz. The Wine
Society tasting panel liked
his first two wines so much that Nick was made a finalist along with
nine other young winemakers. Nick is the only Tassie finalist (although
Anna Pooley was nominated) and is unique "I am the only one who runs
his own label" Nick said.
Being nominated has already paid dividends "I am getting a
lot of publicity so it is already helping". If Nick is selected as
Young Winemaker of the Year in November he will win a return trip to
Europe. "I will be taking Sally" he assures us. As part of
this competition he is also eligible for the Sommeliers and
People's Choice awards. So Nick has 3 chances to do us proud. If he
does win he will be forever known as Winepunters' Own Nick Glaetzer.
We wish him well and hope he remembers to thank us in his
victory speech. We will let you know how he gets on.
(*Sally is a
well known reporter
for The Mercury in Hobart. We should also say that our legal
team has demanded that we make the following statement. "Some or all of
the quotes
attributed to Nick Glaetzer in this article were made up in the
interests of humour and should not be used to judge his character,
looks or winemaking abilities. Further, we promise to never do that
again" ... at least not until the next time - Ed)
