Recently Mark Smith featured our humble website in his
column "off the vine" (The Sunday Examiner 4th Jan 09). Now, like any
self respecting Z grade celebrity, we gratefully accept any publicity
but it has resulted in some shouty emails from our northern
Tasmanian 'friends'. Here is just a taste - by the way the
emails were longer but we took out the really rude bits:
Guys
Just had a
look at the site. Typical. All the vineyards and winemakers are from
the south and surprise surprise so are you lot.
Get serious
and include some real vineyards or get off the web

Just thought
I would let you know that we have fantastic wines in many areas of
Tasmania not just the south. You should get off
your, probably enormous, behinds and drive past Ross. You might be
surprised at how good Tassie wine can be.

OO ER!. Fear not fair northerners. We
are not biased we just suffer from budgetus non existus. We
started with those people we could get to easily and cheaply but our
aim is to talk to someone from every vineyard in Tasmania, yep every
one of them. We also want to talk to every winemaker who
produces Tasmanian wine, yep every one of them. This will
take a bit of time and probably a lot of begging but we will
get there.
To show you we are sincere while we can't offer you the
"Three Peaks" we may be able to provide the "Three
Hills". We have just completed an interview with Julian Allport from
Moores Hill, and are currently in the process of lining up
interviews with Clover Hill and Goaty Hill.
All excellent Tamar Valley vineyards we are sure you will
agree. So please no more shouty emails about bias.
There
are so many other things we do wrong that you can complain about so
just
cast your nets a little wider.
