We have received a number of emails from punters asking us
for wine recommendations, the latest being from someone who goes by the
name of "Savage". (We're
not sure if it's his real name or his
day time soapie name! - Ed).
We are very reluctant to get in
the business of recommending wine simply because we are not convinced
our opinion is worth more than someone else's. If you want
our
advice, try all the wines you can in as many situations as possible and
make up your own mind.

mmmm barrels of wine
However we want to encourage more emails and comments. So to
address the needs of those people who have gone to the
trouble of getting in touch, from now on we will tell you
what we have been drinking. By drinking we don't mean tasting. The
wines we mention will be those we have with meals or in social
situations.
To kick off here is a list of the wines we have drunk during
the month of July:
08 mon pere
Shiraz from Glaetzer Dixon
Family Wines. This is a Tassie shiraz which makes it rare
so it's worth trying on that basis alone. However it is a well made
shiraz done in a European style. If you are used to big
shiraz's then you may find it a bit light you get
good flavour and texture without any alcohol burn.
03 Pooley
Family Reserve Cabernet Merlot. This is a very smooth,
well rounded wine. Lots of flavour and none of that sour taste you
sometimes get with Tassie Cabernets. We tried it with Mongolian meat
balls and it worked very well.
08 Clarence
Plains JV Pinot. This surprised us the first time we tried
it. It tastes great but costs so little. If you are looking
for a wine to drink everyday but are not of the rich persuasion then
your search is over. We nearly didn't mention this one because the
price is bound to go up as more people find out about it.
07 Springvale
Reserve Chardonnay.
This wine is the reason we keep buying
Springvale wines. Forget the fashionistas stick to chardonnay. This has
a buttery flavour with only subtle oak. It's a real adult
chardonnay.
