What we have been drinking in January

Frankly we have been drinking a lot. We're not to be pitied or reported to some welfare organisation, we are to be commended. Despite the risks to our livers we continue in our quest to bring you all you need to know about Tassie wine. Most of our 'research' has been to make sure our old favourites are as good as we remember but we made time for some new stuff.

Thankfully we continue to fail in our quest to find a bad Tassie wine.

Goes with meat as well as fish!

In honour of our posting the interview with Paul McShane from Humbug Reach vineyard we thought we should give the 08 Chardonnay a look. Smooth, well rounded and full of flavour. It is a proper grown up chardonnay that matched beautifully with the pork (stuffed with sage and basil pesto) as well being a fine drink on it's own. This wine definately needs to warm up a little from the fridge to be at it's best.

The 08 pinot rose from milton vineyard

Another belter from the fine folk at Milton. If people take the time to make a proper rosé you know you are in for something special. Not only is it a proper grown up rosé it is also proof that you are an Aussie. We had it at a BBQ and it matched all the meat and salad. This is the wine for sausage in bread punters.

Another great cabernet from Tassie

John Austwick is a dude. He's the sort of guy you need if you want a cool uncle or grandfather. By the way, if you have some money you can buy his vineyard.

This cab sav is smooth like velvet, tastes fantastic and makes you feel good about the world and the idiots who live in it. Try some if you find yourself yelling at the television more than usual. Seriously, a couple of glasses and all the aggravation goes away.

08 Bream Creek Pinot

We like Bream Creek wines for lots of reasons. One of which is it's consistency. Quite simply you will not be embarrassed, disappointed or short on admirers if you order this off the wine list. This pinot is a cracker for those of you who like a fruity, easy drinking tipple. It's a no nonsense food matching machine.

Sorry no photo

Having just had a fantastic meal at the Me Wah restaurant in Hobart we have to mention the 08 Kelvedon Pinot. The folk at Kelvedon have been making consistently good pinots for a while. This particular pinot pleased everyone at the table and that is no mean feat! It combines good fruit flavours with a solid back end. You feel like you are having a real drink. It also matched all of the chinese food we had which included prawns, vegetables, lamb and duck.

08 icon chardonnay

Remember punters the clearance bin is your friend. Don't be a snob and say things like "oh I never get anything out of a bin" because you will miss out on the odd bargain. We found this gem for only $10.99. We like an oaked chardonnay and we like this one. Nice intense flavour with a love slap from the oak and a tight finish. Solid on it's own and surprisingly good with the black angus steak and melted brie we had with it.
